Donated land for Oakwood, Calvary, and Trinity cemeteries, parks, churches, and the medical facility later named John Peter Smith Hospital. -
Transport & Infrastructure Pioneer
Helped found the first street railway system and promoted the Texas and Pacific Railroad’s extension into Fort Worth. - Creator of the First Fort Worth School

Most Prestigious Landowner & Civic Leader
Became the largest landowner in Fort Worth after the Civil War. In his will, Smith donated land for a public hospital, which became today’s John Peter Smith Hospital (JPS Health Network). -
Commemorated with a Monument
After his death in 1901, Fort Worth erected the John Peter Smith Monument near St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
